Update WordPress after a backup

WordPress5 minutesChangesTested 19 Oct 2026
Paste into ChatGPT or ClaudeCheck whether WordPress has an update. If it is already current, tell me and stop without creating a backup. If an update is available, create a full backup with Duplicator. Wait until it finishes and confirm it includes files and the database. Only then install the WordPress update, including any required WordPress database update. Report the old and new versions and give me the home page link so I can check it. Don’t update plugins or themes.

Changes content or settings on your site. See the recipe below for approval requirements. Read only cannot make changes.

  1. Your assistant checks for a WordPress update. If there is none, it stops without creating a backup.
  2. If an update is available, it creates a full Duplicator backup and waits until it is complete, with files and the database included.
  3. It installs the WordPress update and any required database update.
  4. It reports the old and new versions and gives you the home page link to check.
  • “Check my WordPress version and whether an update is available. Don’t change anything yet.”
  • Duplicator must be installed and active. If the backup fails or is incomplete, the update must not proceed.
  • Your WordPress user needs permission to create backups and update WordPress. Your host must allow file changes.
  • After the update, open the home page and test important functions such as checkout.
  • Duplicator stores the backup using its configured storage. AI Puffer Cloud does not store it.
  • A full backup needs time and disk space. Restoring it is a separate action in Duplicator; it does not happen automatically.
