AI providers and keys
The chatbot, content writer, AI forms, images and automations need an AI provider. You have two ways, and you can use both.
- AI Puffer Cloud: no API key. Every account gets free credits each month; paid plans include more. See AI Puffer Cloud.
- Your own keys: you pay the provider directly.
Website management needs neither: the AI there is your ChatGPT or Claude.
Connect a provider
Section titled “Connect a provider”- Open AI Puffer › Settings › AI.
- Choose Connect on a provider: OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google, Azure AI, DeepSeek or xAI. Ollama, for models on your own server, is Pro.
- Paste the API key. Azure also needs its Endpoint; Ollama needs its Server address instead of a key.
- Select Connect. The model list is fetched straight away. If the provider rejects the key, the card says so.
- Pick the Default model, and choose Make default if this provider should be the site’s default.
Changes save as you go. You can also connect from any tool: the Connect an AI provider dialog opens where you are and switches that tool to the new provider.
Make default decides what new chatbots, forms and articles start with. Existing ones keep their own choice. Connecting AI Puffer Cloud never makes it the default by itself.
Provider options
Section titled “Provider options”- OpenAI: Check messages for harmful content runs OpenAI’s moderation on visitor messages in chatbots, AI forms and images. Save chats on OpenAI lets long chats continue on OpenAI’s side. Compatibility mode is for services that copy OpenAI’s older API; it turns off file search, web search, saved chats and moderation.
- OpenRouter: up to three backup models if the first fails, and privacy routing: skip providers that collect data, or use zero-retention providers only.
- Google: Save chats on Google.
- Azure AI: your deployments and API versions.
- Any provider: Custom address, for a proxy or a compatible service.
Advanced, at the bottom, sets Creativity and Top P for every tool that doesn’t set its own. Sync models refreshes every connected provider’s model list.
