Back up your database

UpdraftPlus3 minutesChangesTested 31 October 2026
Paste into ChatGPT or ClaudeUse UpdraftPlus to create a local backup of my WordPress database only, labelled Before database changes. Read the current backup settings first, request approval when required, and follow the returned job ID until native completion is confirmed. Report the database archive’s local presence and any warnings. Do not start a second backup if the result is uncertain, and do not make the planned database changes yet.

Changes content or settings on your site. See the recipe below for approval requirements. Read only cannot make changes.

  1. Your assistant checks current settings and prepares a database-only request.
  2. After the applicable approval, it queues one native backup and retains its job ID.
  3. It checks that same job and reports completion, local files and remaining verification limits.
  • Requires AI Puffer 2.5.22 or later, UpdraftPlus 1.26.14 or later and WordPress 6.9 or later with the Abilities API. Single-site WordPress only. Tested scope is UpdraftPlus Free; available on all AI Puffer plans with normal website-action allowances.
  • These backups stay on your server. They do not upload to remote storage, send a report email or prune earlier backups. The new set is kept for manual removal in UpdraftPlus. Local files consume disk space and do not replace off-site storage or a tested restore.
  • A database-only backup does not contain plugin, theme or uploaded media files. Queued is not completed; WordPress cron must be able to run.
