Back up, then update a plugin
Paste into ChatGPT or ClaudeMake a full Duplicator backup before updating Rank Math. Confirm the backup has finished, is usable, includes both files and the database, and report any exclusions. Once that is confirmed, update Rank Math to the latest available version and verify its saved version and active status. Restore its original active status if needed.
Changes content or settings on your site. See the recipe below for approval requirements. Read only cannot make changes.
What happens
Section titled “What happens”- Replace Rank Math with the name of the plugin you want to update.
- Your assistant starts a full backup and waits for Duplicator to report that it is complete and usable, with files and the database included.
- It updates the chosen plugin, then checks the saved version and active status. If an active plugin becomes inactive, it restores its active status and checks again.
- At Standard, approve the backup and the plugin update separately in WordPress. Continue the conversation after each approval.
Try also
Section titled “Try also”- “Back up, then update WooCommerce.”
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Tested with Rank Math 1.0.279 → 1.0.280 using the official WordPress.org update. Private or paid plugin packages use the vendor’s normal updater.
- A started, unfinished, failed or database-only backup is not confirmation of a complete full-site backup.
- Backup status checks and the update use website actions. Reactivation, when needed, is a separate change and may need approval.
- A backup provides a recovery point. It does not prove the updated plugin will work with every theme or plugin on your site.
