Plugins › Duplicator
Back up your site from chat.
Make a full backup before a big change, check that it finished and what it includes, and get the link to restore it, by asking. Uses the free Duplicator plugin.
Backup checks and backup-before-plugin-update workflows tested on 24 October 2026 with Duplicator 5.0.6, from ChatGPT and Claude. Real restores tested on 15 October 2026.
Things to ask
- “Make a full backup first, and wait until it’s done.”A new backup of files and database.
- “Check my backups. Is there a complete full backup?”Finds the newest usable full backup.
- “Back up, then update Rank Math.”Checks the backup before updating the plugin.
- “Give me the link to restore last night’s backup.”A link. You restore it in Duplicator.

Actions used by this integration and their test status. At Trusted, supported changes follow the connected WordPress user’s permissions.
| What your assistant uses | What it does | At Standard | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
duplicator/create-backup | Back up the whole site, or only the database | Asks you | Tested |
duplicator/get-backup-status | Whether a backup finished, is usable and what it left out | Reads | Tested |
duplicator/list-backups | Your backups | Reads | Tested |
We restored real full backups on separate test sites: posts, settings and uploaded files came back exactly as they were before.
Check backups before an update
Check your backups to find the newest complete full backup and distinguish it from a database-only or failed run. Duplicator returns its 20 most recent backups.
Back up, then update a plugin waits for a complete, usable full backup before updating the chosen plugin. It checks the saved version and activation afterward. At Standard, the backup and plugin update need separate approvals in WordPress; reactivation, if needed, is another change.
Both workflows were tested on 24 October 2026 with ChatGPT and Claude, using Duplicator 5.0.6 and an actual Rank Math 1.0.279 → 1.0.280 update on separate Free and Premium sites.
How restoring works
Duplicator doesn’t share a restore ability, so a restore never runs from chat. Your assistant finds the right backup and gives you its link. In Duplicator, select Restore, check the site and database it will overwrite, and confirm. When it’s done, sign in again to finish and remove the installer files, then check your site.
Limits
- Starting a backup isn’t finishing it: Duplicator builds it in the background. Your assistant checks until it’s complete and usable.
- A database-only backup leaves out files, uploads, themes and plugins.
- Backups stay on your server, where Duplicator keeps them. Off-site storage and encrypted archives are outside these Duplicator tests. For separately tested local database and content backups, see UpdraftPlus.
- Restoring rewinds everything in the database to that moment, including AI Puffer’s own connection settings and activity records.
