Questions, answered.
The things people ask before they connect their site. Something missing? Ask me.
Do I need another AI subscription?
No. You use the ChatGPT or Claude you already have. AI Puffer doesn’t charge for your assistant’s thinking; that stays with your ChatGPT or Claude plan, under their limits.
What AI Puffer counts is website actions: each successful operation on your site uses one. The free plan includes 2,000 a month.
Is it safe to give an AI access to my site?
That’s the question AI Puffer was built around.
- Your WordPress password stays on your site. Each assistant connects with OAuth, without an Application Password, and you can revoke its access in WordPress.
- It acts as a WordPress user you choose, so it can never do more than that person could.
- You choose how much it does alone: Read only, Standard (asks before anything goes live) or Trusted (works unattended).
- A shell and server files are never reachable (on paid plans, theme files only through a draft). Passwords and keys are never shown to your assistant or changed by it, and neither are AI Puffer’s own connection settings.
- Every read and change goes into an activity log on your own site, and one switch pauses all changes.
More in How it works.
Will the AI break my live site?
It works draft first. New posts and pages arrive as drafts. At Standard, anything that goes live requires your approval in wp-admin.
Versioned content edits refuse stale versions instead of overwriting a page that has changed. Your assistant should follow each installed plugin’s checks and read back its saves. Elementor pages are saved the way Elementor saves them. Block-editor pages keep their blocks: your assistant can’t save plain text over them, and replacing a whole block layout takes a deliberate step from a fresh read. Theme work (on paid plans) happens in a separate draft that you preview first, goes live with a backup, and can be rolled back.
Before a big change, ask your assistant to request a backup with Duplicator or UpdraftPlus. Confirm completion and the coverage you need before proceeding.
Is it free? What are the limits?
Yes. The free plan gives you 2,000 website actions and 25 AI credits every month, with no card needed, and it renews each month. Paid plans start at $9.99 a month and add their allowances on top of these free amounts. For example, Max includes 25,000 paid website actions plus 2,000 free, for 27,000 a month. One account covers all your sites and assistants, and they share the allowance. See Pricing.
What’s the difference between website actions and AI credits?
Website actions are what your ChatGPT or Claude does on your site: each successful operation on your site uses one action, such as reading a post or changing a price. Account and status checks are free, and one request can take several operations. AI credits run the AI inside your site: the chatbot for your visitors, the content writer, AI forms and images. They’re counted separately.
Which AI apps does it work with?
We test with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code. Other apps that connect to remote MCP servers with OAuth should work too, but we haven’t tested them; choose “Set it up manually” when you add an assistant.
What is MCP?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. AI Puffer gives your assistant a set of MCP tools for your WordPress site: read and write posts and pages, add images, and use what your plugins share. The tools reference lists them all, and WordPress MCP server explains how it connects.
What can it do on my site?
Posts and pages (write, edit, publish, schedule, categories and tags), images (add from a link or straight from your chat, alt text, featured images), WooCommerce products, stock, coupons and orders (packing lists, customer notes, completing orders), SEO fields and checks through supported SEO plugins, ACF fields, Contact Form 7 forms and notifications, WPForms forms, Fluent Forms entries, WP Mail SMTP diagnostics, redirects and Duplicator or UpdraftPlus backups, block-editor layouts and inline edits, saved post revisions, simple-product sale schedules, your own content types with their own fields, Elementor pages and global styles, and 125+ familiar WP-CLI commands: plugin, theme and WordPress updates, users and roles, settings, menus, cache, cron and the database, with no SSH. On paid plans, your theme’s files too. Plus most of what your plugins share through the WordPress Abilities API or a REST API. The cookbook has tested recipes for each.
Does it work with my page builder?
We have tested workflows for Elementor, Beaver Builder, GenerateBlocks, SiteOrigin Page Builder, Pagelayer and SeedProd. The supported edits depend on the builder; see Tested integrations for each scope. Greenshift support covers saved-page inspection, palette colors and design variables.
You can also build pages from WordPress core blocks and edit supported text and links while preserving formatting and untouched blocks. Separate drafts, summaries and FAQs are supported. Dynamic, synced and arbitrary third-party blocks need their own supported workflow.
Can it work with my other plugins?
Yes, through supported WordPress abilities and REST routes. Your assistant discovers what the installed version offers. Tested integrations include WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SureRank, ACF, Contact Form 7, WPForms, Fluent Forms, WP Mail SMTP, Duplicator and UpdraftPlus.
Supported settings and user-management actions retain native permissions and your selected safety level. Credentials, AI Puffer’s own connection settings and arbitrary bulk requests stay protected. The integration guides explain the tested limits.
Do I need to install a plugin?
Yes: AI Puffer, free on WordPress.org. Its setup opens when you activate it and connects your assistant, including a free AI Puffer Cloud account with a verified email. It takes a few minutes. Later, it’s under AI Puffer › Settings › Connections › Manage my website.
Do I need to be technical?
No. If you can install a plugin, you can connect your assistant. It all happens in wp-admin and in ChatGPT or Claude: no tokens, config files or server settings to deal with. Start in WordPress setup or Claude’s directory. If WordPress asks you to sign in, you do so on your own website, then approve assistant access.
The step-by-step guide takes about five minutes.
Does it work with my hosting?
Yes, any host, unless a firewall or bot protection blocks AI Puffer’s relay. Your site needs to be reachable on the internet over HTTPS, because your assistant’s requests come through AI Puffer’s relay. A site that runs only on your own computer needs a public address first, for example through a tunnel.
Can I connect several sites?
Yes. Connect each site to the same AI Puffer account, and tell your assistant which one to work on. Or ask it to run the same WP-CLI commands on up to 50 of them at once, such as a plugin update everywhere, as one background job. All your sites share one monthly allowance.
What happens to my content?
When your assistant asks for a post, that post goes to your assistant, under its own privacy terms. AI Puffer’s records keep what happened (which tool, on what, with which result), not your pages or your chats. Your site keeps its own activity log. The details are in Privacy and data and our privacy policy.
Is it only for managing my site from chat?
No. AI Puffer started as a chatbot plugin and still includes it: an AI chatbot for your visitors, a content writer, automations, AI forms and images, all on the same account. See Inside the plugin.
