Google AI chief calls for urgent research on AI threats

The head of Google’s artificial intelligence division has called for urgent research into the potential threats posed by AI. He spoke at the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi.

He said more work is needed to understand and manage the risks linked to advanced AI systems. His comments come as governments and technology leaders debate how to address safety concerns. At the same event, the head of the United States delegation said: “We totally reject global governance of AI.”

The remarks highlight differences in approach among major countries and technology leaders. Some are calling for stronger international cooperation on AI safety. Others oppose the idea of global rules to govern the technology. The discussions took place during the summit in India’s capital.
