Ofcom has fined porn company 8579 LLC £1.35m for failures in its age checks. The regulator said the company did not meet its duties under the Online Safety Act. The penalty is the largest Ofcom has issued so far under the law.
Ofcom said the action relates to failings in the company’s age verification measures. The rules require platforms to have effective systems in place to prevent children from accessing adult content. The regulator has powers to fine companies that do not comply.
The Online Safety Act gives Ofcom authority to oversee online platforms and enforce safety standards. The £1.35m penalty marks the biggest fine imposed by the regulator since the law came into force.
